RECENT OBITUARIES Michael Petras Michael Petras died peacefully on June 19, 2009, his 88th birthday, in Genesis Health Care, Westfield. The funeral service will be held at the Growney Funeral Home, 1070 N. Broad St., Hillside, on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 22, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late George and Mary Petras (nee Kudlesak), Mr. Petras lived in Newark before moving to Hillside 30 years ago. An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Petras was employed by Mailing Services in Hillside for 30 years before retiring in 1986. He was a parishioner of Christ the King Church in Hillside. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine, and is survived by his devoted nephew, George J. Petras III of Union. He was also the uncle to John M. Petras , Jacqueline O’Brien, Cynthia Petras, Diane Petras and Edward Petras Jr.; also survived by his sister-in-law, Martha Petras and other relatives and friends.
