Julia Krajcech

Julia (nee Machajski) Krajcech, 86 a Lifelong resident of Hillside, Died on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at her home in Hillside.

Devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, aunt and sister, she had a special love of family.

Julia attended Hillside School system but was never able to complete her high school education. In order to help support her family Julia worked as an assembler at the Hollander Umbrella Company in Newark, where she walked to work everyday from Hillside. During the war she drove a delivery truck for General Diaper Service in Hillside. It was during the war that she met and married her husband of 62 years John Krajcech (deceased) and they had 3 children, Julie Ann, John and JoAnn. Also survived by nine Grandchildren and eight great Grandchildren and her loving Nephew James.


The Club Diana always held a special place in her heart where during the late 40's, 50's, and 60's she worked as a waitress. During that time she met many international celebrities, made many friends and enjoyed working with the public. In the 60's she worked at the Kingston Restaurant in Union and Christie's Restaurant in Newark. Her love of serving people and celebrating life led her to the Town & Campus where she was known as "Miss Julie". She volunteered for many committees for social and community activities. Whether you were a President, Politician or a Bride she embraced each new banquet as if it were her own.

During the late 70's she went to work for Schering Corporation where she worked in the packaging department and operated a fork lift. Whatever the job, Julia always took pride in whatever she did. After retiring in the 80's Julia began to volunteer for community projects; veterans committees, senior activities were special projects that filled her days. The recipient of many awards she will be missed by all.

Funeral from the Growney Funeral Home, 1070 North Broad Street, Hillside, on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 9:15 AM. The Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 AM at Christ the King Church in Hillside. Interment will follow at the Ukrainian Assumption Church Cemetery in Hopelawn, N.J. Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of Flowers, donations to the Center for Hope Hospice or the charity of their choice would be appreciated.
