Irving E. Goodman
Irving Edward Goodman, better known as “Goody”, of West Orange, N.J., passed away at the age of 94 on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, after a brief illness.
Born in Orange, N.J. on June 16, 1915, Goody lived most of his life in the West Orange Area. He was a graduate of Newark-Southside High School, attended New York University and served as a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. He was a self-employed interior decorator in West Orange for many years.
Goody was a forward-looking individual who enjoyed being with people, whether at work or leisure. He loved his business “Julius Goodman and Son”, walking his beat selling furniture door-to-door for decades to many families in the Oranges. He inspired everyone with his optimism about life and his unrelenting focus on the positive. He was curious and interested in everyone; he never tired of social interaction. But the hallmark of Goody’s character was his remarkable, infectious sense of humor. He punctuated every occasion with his famous one-liners and a laugh.
Goody was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Mildred Kemper, and was the devoted father of Bonnie and her husband John, Andy and his wife Roslyn, and Fred and his wife Deborah. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren, Andrea, Katie, Sadie, Sara, Jordan, Rachel, Oliver and Molly.
A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kessler Rehabilitation Institute, Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, N. J. would be appreciated. Funeral Arrangements by Funeral Service of New Jersey, Inc.
