RECENT OBITUARIES
Maria Madalena De Oliveira

Maria Madalena De Oliveira passed with courage and grace on Monday, May 25, 2009, at home with her family in Hillside. Maria has been an inspiration to all during her seven year battle against ovarian cancer.

Maria was an admired travel professional at Elmora Travel and Portuguese Tours in Elizabeth for 20 years. Even during her long fight with cancer, Maria continued to work – most recently at ClubABC/Eurofly – and volunteer her time with Literacy Volunteers in Hillside. Her beautiful spirit of caring never stopped touching the hearts of those all around her.

Maria was born in Portugal, in Vimeiro de Alcobaca, and came to America at age 17. A brilliant mind, she graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth just one year later.

Maria is forever a great source of strength for her surviving family: her husband of 30 years, Antonio De Oliveira, and their two sons Pedro and Andre; her parents Manuel and Maria Lourenco; her brothers Jose and Joaquim, sister Cecilia, and their spouses; and her eight nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will be welcomed at Growney Funeral Home, 1070 North Broad St., Hillside, from 7pm to 9pm on Wednesday, May 27. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 28, at 9:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 403 Spring St., Elizabeth.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Pennsylvania Place Suite 1400, NY, NY 10122. They may also be contacted at www.ocrf.org or at 212.268.1002.
